Meet Fletch

Racing Name: D.V.'s Gold Shadow

Welcome to My Blog

July 12, 2015

D.V.'s Gold Shadow, "Fletch"

Gender: Male
D.O.B: July 15, 2008
Weight: 75 pounds
Small Pet Safe: Yes
Color: Fawn

Fletch has settled in wonderfully here in his foster home. He is a medium-sized fawn boy, long and lean with white socks and a white tail tip. He has a a black snout that is just starting to grey and betray his age of almost seven — though the rest of him certainly looks younger. He has beautiful natural eyeliner that compliments his deep brown eyes as he walks around with his head lowered.
He is very obedient and knows his name very well. He comes when called, and can tell by the tone of your voice when you mean business. He has never barked or inside the house, though you might experience some separation anxiety (howling) for the first week or two. After he settles in, he is perfectly fine being left at home all day while you are at work.
Fletch almost always needs to be in the same room as his human — if he's not sticking his long nose in your business, he'll be watching from afar. He likes to cuddle on the couch or bed, though he'll usually wait for you to make the first move.
He seems mostly cat safe, though can get pretty curious if they start darting around and especially if they are outside. If you have a less active cat, he can almost certainly be taught to play nice. Fletch gets along very well with other dogs (including small ones) and might even be happiest with a companion to share the house with if you're out for most of the day. He is generally pretty submissive. He is also small-child safe and loves to get pets from kids when we are out for walks.
He loves to go for long walks. He can go a day or two without exercise but he really loves his walks and being outside with you. I can't tell you how many times I've been showered with calls of "beautiful dog!" when we're out walking.

If you're looking for a slender, graceful, quiet and well-behaved dog, Fletch is the dog for you. Just don't leave any food lying around!

Meet Tony

Racing Name: Ale Tony Romo

Welcome to My Blog

April 18, 2015

Ale Tony Romo, "Tony"

Gender: Male
D.O.B: December 6, 2011
Weight: 70 pounds
Small Pet Dog Safe: No
Cat Safe: No
Color: Brindle

Tony is a large red brindle boy with four white feet.  His eyes are more amber than brown and when he looks at you, it makes you melt.

Tony adores human attention and loves to be petted and rubbed by his humans.  He sticks close to his humans and is very interested and concerned when they move around the house.  You might feel Tony’s nose give you a gentle nudge on the behind because he following closely in case you need his help.  And “Tony The Nose” is always available to help his human.

Tony needs at least one other dog with him in his forever home.  He doesn't seem to do well as an only dog.  Tony is safe with some small dogs, but with others he is much too curious.  I think his safeness will depend on the dog.  He is fine with dogs 45 pounds or larger and lives with 3 mixed breeds in his foster home along with several Greyhounds.  Tony can be a bit dominant and might do better with a female rather than a male.

He crates well and although he is sometimes vocal, he has not been destructive in the crate.  He eats in the crate due to other dogs being in the home.  Tony can be competitive about food so he would need to be crated when fed or placed in a secure place away from other pets.

His house manners have been excellent.  Other than a couple of accidents (urine) he has been perfect.  He has not been destructive at all.

Tony has attended Meet and Greets and loved all the petting and attention.  He enjoyed attention from children as well as adults.  He was VERY curious about some of the small dogs who came in the pet store so caution would need to be used when placing him with small dogs.  He is purported to be cat safe, but I would like to re-test him just to be sure due to his reaction to the small dogs.

Tony will be someone’s heart boy.  He is sweet, loving and just gorgeous.

Meet Thera

Racing Name: Atascocita Thera

Welcome to My Blog

April 18, 2015

Atascocita Thera, "Thera"

Gender: Female
D.O.B: August 8, 2012
Weight: 58 pounds
Small Pet Safe: Yes
Color: Fawn

Atascocita Thera's name sounded like "Sara" with a lisp, so we've been calling her "Nala", like from the Disney movie, The Lion King. She is a beautiful light fawn color just like Nala. She is super sweet and smiles all the time. She likes to play with stuffies and loves to race her foster brother Toby around the back yard. She usually stays in the same room with us, but is sometimes content to go an lay down in another room for a nap.

She crates perfectly and has had absolutely no accidents in the house. She is excited when we come home, but waits patiently before she is let out of the crate to give us kisses. Her tail constantly wags when she is happy. She loves to roll around in the grass in the backyard! She has roached several times and will lay with her belly up for as long as she can hold her balance. I think she's working on her tan lines.

She sits occasionally (a REAL sit!) but she only does it when she's about to roll around in the grass or scratch her neck. She's transitioned to dry dog food well. I'm pretty sure she was raw fed before because she almost snagged some fresh amberjack steaks that were marinating on the counter. She has not had any other counter-surfing occurrences since then. She is learning to take treats from our hands. At first, she would knock them onto the floor, snatch them up, run to another room to devour them, then come back for more. She will now take a treat from our hands and only walk a few feet away to enjoy her treat. She will stand and let us Furminate her for as long as we like and she has done well with nail trims. She is super sweet and gets along great with other hounds. We've not exposed her to other breeds or animals since we only have greyhounds.
This smiley,

Gender: Male
D.O.B: January 1, 2013
Weight: 70 pounds
Small Pet Safe: Yes
Color: Red Fawn

Updated September, 2015

Ryan has been returned to AAH through no fault of his own.  Stay tuned and we will have a follow up note from his foster parents.

Updated June 12, 2015

Ryan wants to be loved!!  He has personally taken out and played with every one of the toys in the bin!  He is so sweet and playful and obviously still has a lot of puppy in him.  He literally zoomed around in circles in my bedroom this morning!
He is not bugging the cats anymore (thanks Manbug), but is full of joy and is a very good boy and a sweet heart, and I think he will settle in just fine.  It will take a little more
time and learning but he is learning to trust me and settle in.

Update April 18, 2015

Hi there! I’m Rams Rippin’ Ryan, but you can just call me Ryan. I’m currently staying with a great foster family and having a great time adjusting to life at home. I’m really well behaved especially around the children that live in my foster home. I would have to say my favorite hobby is napping, but I also really enjoy time outside. I love walks and do considerably well walking with a leash, even beside a stroller! I just love wandering around local greenways and sniffing out different flowers and grass.
Another thing I get really excited about is rides in the car. This usually means I’m going to explore a new park but I love to come along on short rides to get errands done too. Most importantly, I adore attention from anyone and everyone I come in contact with. You can pet and cuddle on me all day long, really. I may look large and in charge but I’m a huge baby on the inside. Please consider being my forever family, I would love to meet you!

Meet Reggie

Racing Name: Ceyenne Gold

Welcome to My Blog

April 18, 2015

Ceyenne Gold, "Reggie"

Gender: Male
D.O.B: April 24, 2013
Weight: 68 pounds
Small Pet Safe: TBD
Color: Black

Reggie is a sweet somewhat reserved boy at first but once he gets to know you it is a whole different story. He just turned two and still is a learning leash etiquette. He has had zero accidents in the house and made no attempts to mark whatsoever. He is learning to walk on slick surfaces, and he gains more confidence every day.

If you looking to bring your first Greyhound into your life or to add another to your pack, Reggie would fit the bill nicely.
