Slippy Update

March 20, 2014

Due to happy tail Slippy maintained a minor injury to her tail, and it is almost healed (and hopefully it will stay healed). She really loves attention and gets so excited that she may sometimes jump bc she just can't contain the springs in her legs. Getting better though, we are working on that. She loves going on walks, and would make a great walking companion :)

Foster Mom,

Whitney

Adopted

Here is what my foster family had to say about me.

Major is doing great! He is such a loving boy and loves as much human attention as he can get. Major has a ton of energy and loves to go. He loves to ride in the car, go to the dog park or take a walk. As soon as you go to get a leash, Major is excited and ready to go. We have been working on his leash walking, he is doing much better with the pulling. He is just so excited about the next new thing he is going to see on the walk, that he wants to go, go, go. He gets along so well with our other three greys as well as our cat. He listens well. A "no" is all he needs to stop whatever he is doing.

He takes his stuffed monkey to bed every night. As soon as I say "bed", the other three dogs head to the bedroom. Major has to go to the toy box, or wherever he has put his monkey, and grab him to take to his bed. He puts his monkey on his bed, circles it twice and then lays down with his monkey resting between his legs. He's a sweetheart!

Meet Noah

Racing Name: W.W.'s Bring it On - "Noah"

Welcome to My Blog

July 4, 2014
Available- Medical Hold

Stay tuned for my personal video.

 Gender: Male
DOB: 1.4.12
Weight: 71 lbs.
Small Pet Safe: Workable
Color: Red Fawn

A Note From My Foster Parents,

If you watched Noah's video you will see the trials he has been through these past couple of months.  Noah's body is healed from his injury. but his foster family continues to work on his anxiety.
Noah came to us just shy of his 2nd birthday.  In the greyhound rescue world he is considered young.  He had some adjusting issues, but we are working on those.  He has come a long way these past couple of months.  He is a sweet boy who
enjoys his human's affections.
Noah suffers from separation anxiety, he is currently medicated,  so would do best in a home where someone is home more than they are gone. Noah seems to be the "rare" alpha male greyhound so will need someone who is experienced with dogs, particularly greyhounds. Noah will need to be in a home with no small children or small animals and would probably be best as the only dog.  At this time Noah is still on medical hold
.

Noah is in Need of Help

All Posts are in Chronological Order:

Initial Post----April 13, 2014

Foster Noah is in need of your help. Please read his story below and follow the links for a donations.

Noah is 2 year old greyhound currently in our foster program. He was injured Saturday, April 5th while experiencing separation anxiety. Those of us who have dealt with this issue know, greyhounds are masters of hurting themselves in some of the most benign situations you could come up with. He was rushed to our group's veterinarian at Southern Vet. He was then transferred to Nashville Vet Specialists, where he had surgery for a bad cut on his shoulder. This cut went into Noah's muscle. He is now recovering. He has a bit of a journey ahead of him, but we are doing everything we can to help him on that journey.

Currently Noah must go to the veterinarian's office every day to have his bandage changed and to debrided the dead tissue every other day or as needed. With the pain and the severity of Noah's fear at this time he is being medicated so the veterinarian can help him. We will eventually be able to taper off to every other day for the vet. visits. These visits will cost $150 every visit. Noah may also have to have a second surgery for a skin graft.

All About Hounds would appreciate your help with Noah's veterinary bills. Any donations would be greatly appreciated.

Thank You,
All About Hounds Members

Update: May 3rd

Update on Noah

On Monday Noah went back to the vet. He pulled a staple and Southern Vet. did re-close the wound. It wasn't bad, but we need to make sure that it stays completely closed. His wound was completely closed last week.

With his peanut butter snack he is a good boy and let His foster family change his bandages. . He continues to wear a muzzle and a protective collar, the "lamp shade", when he isn't under very strict supervision. He is obsessed with trying to lick his wound.

As long as his wound continues to stay closed and we keep progressing as we are he will get his staples removed in around 10 days.

Photos:
1. Noah in a peanut butter coma. His foster family uses peanut butter as his incentive & reward for changing his bandages.

2. Super spoiled & ready for bed. . The shirt also adds a barer between he and the bandages.

June 3rd Update:

Noah continues to heal and thrive under his AMAZING foster family & our resident dog whisperers.   They are continuing his loving care, bandage changes, taking him to the vet for appointments, etc.  Our words can not express our appreciation enough.

You can see that his wound has finally closed up.  It is still sensitive and we need to continue to wrap it.  The veterinarians at Southern Vet. have done an amazing job with Noah.  You can see in the photo below that we finally have closed the wound. :)

Otis is a sweet mama's boy who likes being in the same room as his foster mom. He has learned manners quickly, waits to be told to come in when the door is opened, and waits for his feet to be wiped. Otis loves affection and loves running around the yard. He has not had issues with separation anxiety, sleeps in his crate 9-10 hours during the work day. He wants to be alpha of the pack. He needs clear direction from his human, but not a heavy hand.  He is easily corrected.

Here is what my foster mom said about me.

Foster Kieth Richards is an absolute joy!  He still has a few lessons to learn about retirement, but this boy is going to make a great addition to someone's home.

Kieth is an ultimate Velcro dog and wants more than anything to be with you.  Even if you are sitting, Kieth will stand by you batting his eyes until you pet him.  If you take to long at this request, he will gently nudge your hand to encourage the petting.  If you still take to long, he will put his head in your lap.

There is no evidence of any food aggression.  I have taken food away during feeding and he did nothing.  He does gulp his food.  We first tried to put a large Kong in his bowl which did not slow him down much so now he gets a cup turned upside down in addition to water.

Inside, he shows no aggression to a small dog or cat.  I did notice at the meet and greet he "watched" the small animals go into Petco.

He has had one accident in the house and I take complete responsibility.  He was pacing and I didn't pick up on his signal.  Since then we have had no issues.

He crates during the day at work.  He needs a small bit of Pupperoni encouragement to crate up, but he does not show any anxiety while crated.

To say he is a bit of a bull in a china cabinet is an understatement, we are still working through his manners when he gets excited.

His other challenge is riding in a car, he has not grasped the concept at all.  If it were not for the doggy divider in the SUV, he would definitely try to help you drive.  At this point, I would not attempt to transport him without a kennel, a divider, or 2nd passenger to help.

Small Pet Safe: No
Color: White & Black
A Note from my foster mom:

What can I say about sweet Mezzy?! She is such a sweetie!!! She loves people and anytime I take her on a walk she gets very excited and wags her tail like crazy when she sees a potential petting :)
She is very low maintenance, she loves her crate and has no problem being left alone. I think she enjoys being with another dog though. After my other foster got adopted, she moped for a few days and doesn't play as much now that her buddy is gone. She loves to be outside, but I don't have a fenced in yard so lounging on the deck satisfies her need:)

 Gender: Female
DOB:1.25.11

Brave is doing excellent in her foster home. She is a very silly and playful grey. She has perfect house manners and is not afraid of the crate or thunderstorms. She even likes to play fetch! She loves stuffies and has mastered getting treats to fall out of the orange treat ball. She gets along well with the other greys and seemed to do well with other breeds at the meet and greet this past weekend. She loves to have her ears and neck scratch and will often give an appreciative groan. She does not get on the furniture. While she is not a real big eater, putting a little something of interest on her food (sardines, wet dog food) will usually get her eating.

Come back in a few days to see my video.
