Bell Buckle Event

October 23, 2014

Dear wonderful AAH humans and hounds,

I was not going to say anything about the part I played at this awesome event because at the root of my personality is true humility. However, as these other greys were praised and pictures made and pointed to as special (all greyts are special!) I decided in spite of my humility, to reveal my part in the event. Without naming names I will only say that the hounds at Bell Buckle on Saturday morning were really tired. For two hours I stood in the middle of the crowd, letting everyone pull on my ears and pet me. I heard Bob tell everyone who stopped how wonderful grey hounds were and what their donations would accomplish. I collected $50 on my own to rescue my brothers. OK, I said it you will probably think I am proud and just want attention and you are right.

Love,
The Slider

Meet & Greets

October 1, 2014

I believe M/G are the heart and soul of any greyhound rescue group. Bob and his buddies not only meet complete strangers and talk with them about greyhounds but they greet each other, fellowship together, and remind each other of why they are there. My main point, however, in this blog, is to address my brothers’ and sisters’ behavior at M/G. Our humans give us food, shelter, and squeaky toys seven days a week and all they ask is for you to be vertical for a few hours on Sat. You've been sleeping 18 hours a day for the previous 6 days. You ought to be rested up by now! But that’s not enough is it? As soon as you enter PetCo you flop down on your side and spend the entire time doing nothing. They should duct tape sticks to your legs to keep you vertical! You have to put a mirror in front of your snout to see if you are alive. People walk into the pet store and wonder if they are in a morgue. All we want you to do is stand up. You don’t have to talk or bow or even look happy. Just stand up!

I’m done with my tongue lashing. (at least for now) If all you can do is lie down at least you showed up. I stand up the entire time but as I have confessed in earlier blogs, I don’t like people or dogs. I stand up to see what’s going on. Are there any whippets I could chase? (just kidding; I’ll take a little white cat any day) Bob pulls me against people and they think I like them so they put money in my pouch. Little children pull on my ears. Why do people think we like to be scratched on or behind our ears? Who told them that? I’ll take a soft pat any day and please stop pulling my ears. As to the money I raise. It goes to save our brothers and sisters that are still on the tracks. Remember the tracks? Think back and it might make you stand up and raise some money. How many squeaky toys did you have in that crate in Florida? Without the money in my pouch and other pouches, dogs will die. Think about it.

Slider's First Blog:

Speaking Each Other's Language,

September 26, 2014

This is my first blog, and I was asked to write some things about greyhounds in general as well as myself.  If you have questions for me I would love to answer them.  I will also share some of my favorite stories and experiences.  My human owner and friend is Bob. He loves the greyt ones as much as anyone I've ever seen. He would do anything to get us a forever home.

I think on this blog I want to speak to owners. Bob has tried so hard to understand me. We speak different languages. Each of us has to learn the other's language. It takes desire and most of all time. It takes a lot of touching. He rarely passes me in the house without rubbing his hand down my back.

Last night was so special. I rarely lie down and cuddle with him or anyone. I am a high prey hound and not that interested in other hounds or people. I just have trouble expressing affection. Last night was different. Bob was lying on the bed watching Monday Night Football. For some reason I turned around and landed with my face toward the foot of the bed. I found myself right next to Bob touching him.

He gently began to rub my tummy. It felt great. The key was that he didn't stop. I know he got tired, but he wanted me to have a special night. I alternately slept and roached. It was wonderful. Last night we learned some of each other's language. It might be a long time before it happens again because touching is tough for me and he understands. But then, he's tried to understand.
